Due to the pandemic, many teenagers were forced to stay in their hometown and stopped pursuing their dreams (studying abroad, traveling, working holidays…). It’s true that COVID-19 has brought us inconveniences, and even posed a threat to someone’s life. In Hualien, there’s a group of people. The Fulicatholic St. Andrew Church, an organization that serves hundreds of indigenous people and underprivileged in Hualien, is now facing a more severe situation than ever before. To deal with the problem of funds shortage, sisters and some volunteers started selling pickles online.

In fact, the Fulicatholic St. Andrew Church has been running a farm and selling its products in the Joseph Thrift & Consignment Store since 2013. The Store carries out a charity that targets the needs of the local schools, Township Office, and elderly and children-related activities. Even vouchers were given to the volunteers as a gift to the excellent performing children. Besides the Store, the Fulicatholic St. Andrew Church has established a Green Live Classroom to promote the concept of environmental protection. To make the education valid, there’s a Green Live Learning farm using the non-toxic agricultural method to plant its crops. There are also two special areas for the visitors to learn: a zone for Cash Crops and another zone for Family Farm Construction plants. Thanks to the contribution of the Fulicatholic St. Andrew Church, the original wasteland that had been destroyed by earth and rock flows has now turned into a healthy and fertile land.

s.School has been donated some stationery (around 800 notebooks, chalks, colored pencils, scissors, rulers, glues, and erasers etc.) which was planned to bring to the TEP, Cambodia. Unfortunately, the exchange tour was canceled because of the pandemic, but we have discussed with the person in charge of TEP, Peter, and decided to transport that stationery to units in Taiwan first. We hope the act will bring hope to the children in need and help them come through the tough times.
