Effort with Direction is Meaningful and Motivating | Feng Chia University Department of Automatic Control Engineering Yun-Ching Bu
I am very grateful for choosing Feng Chia University. This place is rich in resources and has a great environment, allowing me to meet many thoughtful and capable classmates. Initially, I gave up the scholarship and resources from my original university and switched from studying business for two years to engineering at Feng Chia. This decision made me feel very confused in the first year because everything had to start anew, which was not easy for a vocational high school graduate like me. However, looking back now, I am thankful that I did not retreat.
Limited Talent, Creating Infinite Possibilities with Opportunities and Effort - Academic Learning
I believe that effort is not blind; effort with direction is meaningful and motivating.
I know I am not naturally good at exams. Initially, after five years of not touching science subjects, it was very difficult for me, and I didn't know where this knowledge would be used in the future. It wasn't until I started doing small projects that I truly felt that learning was valuable.

Innovation Project: One of the project competitions - AWS DeepRacer
One of the most impressive courses was "Innovation Project," which required 1-2 small projects each semester. This course required discussing with team members to stimulate creativity and realize ideas. How to realize these ideas not only required professional knowledge from the department but also required us to learn additional skills in our spare time. Through this course, I understood the importance of professional basic knowledge and self-learning related skills. Therefore, it made me more goal-oriented and motivated when learning each basic course, and more driven to review and learn other skills in my spare time. This course made me realize that effort with direction can not only compensate for the lack of talent but also guide me to achieve excellent results.

Obtained the opportunity to be an AWS Campus Ambassador, but the timing overlapped with my study abroad exchange, so I had to pass the opportunity to others.

Participated in the Ministry of Education's 2020 National University and High School Youth Physics Competition and won the gold medal.
When Confused, Stop and See the World - Study Abroad Exchange
The experience that changed me the most was studying abroad. In 2022, due to the pandemic, I lost a very important opportunity, and the whole plan was disrupted, leaving me confused. However, because of this, I had the opportunity to exchange at Xi'an Jiaotong University. This exchange was very rewarding. Going abroad to see the world not only broadens your horizons but also solves many troubles while learning. Xi'an is a city full of historical culture, and the most shocking thing for me was seeing the Terracotta Army's tomb. I had seen it in history textbooks and costume dramas before, but seeing that grandeur in person was indescribable. This exchange experience not only broadened my horizons but also filled me with confidence and motivation for the future.

Successfully applied for an exchange at Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2022 and participated in the Xi'an Jiaotong University Archery Club's open competition.
Opportunities Belong Not Only to Those Who Are Prepared but Also to Those Who Seize Them - Club Activities
I believe that the most important thing in university is not only academics and love but also networking. Although I am an introverted person, I adhere to the philosophy: we don't need to step out of our comfort zone; we need to expand our comfort zone. We shouldn't limit ourselves because of our disadvantages; instead, we should use our disadvantages to turn them into opportunities. Secondly, friendships during university are the most diverse. Especially at Feng Chia, there are many strong individuals from various fields with different personalities. Because of this, I participated in many activities, adding many colors and different opportunities to my university life. So, how do you meet more people? I think the simplest way is to participate in activities and clubs. This not only allows you to meet various people but also enriches your university life and lays a solid foundation for future networking. The most impressive one is the Maker Center, a place where you can try out your ideas. The school provides you with funds and simulates actual entrepreneurship on a small scale, from idea generation to promotion. This not only enhanced my practical experience but also helped me understand whether I am suitable for this path or if I really want to pursue entrepreneurship. It can help avoid the risk of failure and save some detours in future entrepreneurship.

Participated in the Maker Center's Idea Creativity Competition.

Won first place in the Startup Weekend.
Writing a Perfect Chapter, Thanks to Feng Chia, the Department of Automatic Control Engineering, and Myself - Writing a Perfect Chapter
In the last semester of university, I am very grateful to my mentor, Tzu-Wang Shen, who told me about the Dream Building Plan and gave me the opportunity to intern at CNR in Italy, allowing me to see European life from a different perspective. I think whether it's traveling, exchanging, or working, going abroad with different identities will show you different things.
The biggest learning from this trip to Italy was problem-solving skills, followed by broadening my horizons. Thanks to this opportunity, I realized the gap and deficiencies between myself and others, but I don't think it's a bad thing. Although my professional abilities still have room for improvement, I have taken the first step, and I will continue to move forward at my own pace.

Used minimal costs to actually start a business, find manufacturers, and execute ideas.

The Dream Building Plan allowed me to intern at CNR in Italy, giving me the opportunity to see European life from a different perspective.
Finally, I want to thank Feng Chia University and the teachers and classmates who helped me during this period.
Having ideals and aspirations is not a bad thing. When you are confident and focused on your goals, you will naturally attract opportunities and resources to realize your dreams. If you are still confused and hesitant, then bravely try!
Feng Chia's courses are diverse and interesting, and the resources are very rich. Instead of worrying about insufficient resources, muster the courage to explore and utilize these resources.
